Siding Toronto

Your home’s siding is its first line of defence against Toronto’s weather – and it’s doing a job every single day. Rain, freeze-thaw cycles, UV exposure, wind, and the occasional animal that decides your soffit looks like a good entry point. When siding fails, water gets in. What starts as a cosmetic issue becomes a structural one. At The HandyForce, we install and repair siding across Toronto – from a single damaged panel to a full exterior re-clad.

Siding Materials We Install

Vinyl Siding

Vinyl is the most popular siding material in Toronto – and for good reason. It’s durable, low-maintenance, available in a wide range of colours and profiles, and significantly more affordable than most alternatives. Modern vinyl siding is substantially better than what was installed in the 1980s and 90s – thicker, more impact-resistant, and with colour that goes all the way through rather than just on the surface. We install vinyl as both a full re-clad and as a repair material.

Aluminum Siding

Aluminum siding was the premium choice for decades before vinyl took over, and a significant number of Toronto homes still have it. We repair and replace aluminum siding – matching existing profiles where possible, or replacing sections as part of a larger exterior update.

Composite and Engineered Wood Siding

Composite siding – products like LP SmartSide – offers the look of wood with significantly better moisture resistance and dimensional stability. It’s a step up from vinyl in both appearance and durability, and a step down from HardiePlank in cost. We install composite siding on homes where the look of wood is important but the maintenance of real wood isn’t acceptable.

HardiePlank – Fibre Cement Siding

James Hardie fibre cement siding is the premium end of the residential siding market. It’s dimensionally stable, fire-resistant, impervious to rot and insects, and carries a 30-year warranty. It’s also heavier and more labour-intensive to install than vinyl or composite. For homes where longevity and appearance are the priority, HardiePlank is the right choice.

Stucco Repair

Many Toronto homes – particularly older ones – have stucco exteriors that develop cracks, holes, and surface deterioration over time. The most common culprit we see is animal damage: woodpeckers and other wildlife that probe for insects behind the stucco surface. We patch stucco damage, texture-match the repair, and repaint to blend. We also clean stucco exteriors that have accumulated grime and biological growth over the years.

Real Project: A Full Front Porch Re-Clad in The Beaches

We’ve told this story on our Beaches neighbourhood page, but it bears repeating here because it’s a perfect example of what siding failure actually looks like in practice.

Rebuilt front porch with Trex composite decking, white aluminum railings and PVC-capped steel posts by The HandyForce in The Beaches Toronto

A client in The Beaches had a front enclosed porch where the siding had never been properly installed. Water had been getting behind it for years. By the time we opened it up, the plywood sheathing behind the siding was completely saturated and rotted – there was no salvaging it. We removed everything: siding, sheathing, the windows, the door. New moisture barrier, new plywood, new windows, new door, new siding. The whole front of the home was rebuilt from the structure out.

The result was a porch that looked the way it should have looked when it was originally built – and will actually stay that way, because this time the water has nowhere to get in.

Frequently Asked Questions

If the damage is isolated – a few cracked panels, an animal entry point, a section that took impact damage – repair is almost always the better value. If siding is failing across a large area, panels are warping or buckling, or there are signs of moisture behind the siding in multiple locations, replacement is the right answer. We assess the condition honestly before recommending either.

For vinyl siding, matching depends on whether the existing profile and colour are still in production. We identify the existing product and source it wherever possible. If an exact match isn’t available, we advise on the closest alternative and discuss whether a partial or full replacement makes more visual sense.

Yes – if the sheathing has been compromised by moisture. New siding installed over rotten or wet sheathing will fail faster than the original. We always assess the condition of what’s behind the siding before closing it back up.

Yes – this is something we do regularly. We patch the damaged area, texture-match the repair as closely as possible, and repaint to blend. For recurring animal damage, we can advise on deterrent measures as well.
