A window or door that performs the way it should is invisible – you don’t notice it. A window that leaks, a door that drafts, a patio door with a broken seal that’s been fogged for three winters – those you notice every single day. At The HandyForce, we supply and install windows and doors of all types, handle the full finishing including trim and paint, and repair frames that have rotted rather than replacing what doesn’t need replacing. Our windows and doors are supplied by a Canadian manufacturer – everything is made locally.
Steel doors are the most common entry door we install – cost-effective, secure, energy-efficient, and available in a wide range of styles and finishes. Modern steel doors are foam-insulated and perform significantly better than older wood doors in Toronto’s climate. We supply and install steel entry doors, including frame replacement, weatherstripping, hardware, and interior trim and finishing.
Fibreglass doors offer the look of painted or stained wood without the maintenance that real wood requires. They don’t warp, swell, or rot, and they hold their finish well in Toronto’s humidity and freeze-thaw cycles. For clients who want the warmth of a wood-look door without the ongoing upkeep, fibreglass is the right choice.
For clients where only real wood will do, we source and install solid wood entry doors – standard production units and fully custom. We have done hand-carved custom doors and have imported specialty doors from abroad for clients with specific visions for their home.

Real project: A client in Rosedale wanted an entry door that was genuinely unlike anything available from a local supplier. We sourced a hand-carved solid wood door from a carpenter in Italy, managed the import process, and installed it with a custom frame and hardware. The result is a front entry that reflects the character of the home and the client’s taste – and nobody else on the street has one like it.
Storm and screen doors are one of our most common door additions – particularly the Andersen full-view models that allow homeowners to leave the main door open during Toronto summers while keeping insects out and providing an additional layer of insulation in winter. We install storm doors onto existing frames and as part of new entry door installations.
For commercial properties and rental situations where fire-rated separation is required, we supply and install fire-rated steel doors with steel frames, including all hardware and closers. We work to the applicable fire code requirements.
New sliding patio doors are one of the most common door upgrades we do – particularly in East York and Leaside, where many homes still have original single-pane sliding doors from the 1970s and 80s. The difference in energy performance between an older single-pane slider and a modern double-pane unit is dramatic. We supply and install sliding patio doors, swing patio doors, and French doors, including all framing, interior trim, and finishing.

Window replacement is one of the most impactful upgrades a Toronto homeowner can make – for energy efficiency, noise reduction, and the simple pleasure of a window that opens and closes properly. We supply and install replacement windows in all standard configurations: casement, double-hung, awning, fixed, and picture windows. All windows are supplied by a Canadian manufacturer.
Natural Resources Canada’s ENERGY STAR program rates windows and doors for energy performance – a useful reference when comparing products.
A client in The Beaches had a solarium addition at the corner of their home. The original aluminum-framed windows from the 1970s had reached the end of their life – seals failed, frames corroded, and heavy rain and freeze-thaw cycles had begun to force water inside. The challenge with a solarium corner is structural: there is no corner post, so the windows have to meet at a true 90-degree angle and support each other.
While new windows were being manufactured, we did emergency triage to stop the leaking through the winter. Once the new windows arrived, we installed them precisely into the corner configuration – new frames, new seals, new interior trim. The solarium is dry, bright, and performs the way it should.
Interior doors are one of the easiest ways to change how a home feels – and one of the most deferred projects on most homeowners’ lists. We install the full range of interior door types: hinged, sliding, pocket, bi-fold, and folding. We also supply and install solid core wood interior doors, which are increasingly popular for bedrooms and home offices where noise control and privacy matter.
Rotted door and window frames are extremely common in East York and throughout Toronto’s older housing stock. The bottom section of an exterior wood frame is particularly vulnerable – it sits close to the ground, traps moisture, and deteriorates faster than the door or window itself. We replace rotted sections of frame rather than replacing the entire unit where the door or window is otherwise in good condition. We then cap the entire exterior frame with aluminum – a permanent solution that eliminates the rot point and requires no future maintenance.
A simple like-for-like window or door replacement does not require a permit in Toronto. If you are adding a new opening, removing an existing one, or changing the size or location of a window or door, a permit is required. We assess permit requirements at the quote stage and manage the application where needed.
We supply everything. We work with a Canadian manufacturer and source doors from additional suppliers for specialty and custom orders. You don’t need to source anything – we handle product selection, ordering, and supply as part of the project.
A straightforward window replacement – removing the old unit and installing the new one into the existing opening – typically takes two to four hours per window, including interior trim and finishing. A full house of windows is usually a two to three day project. Lead time for the windows themselves varies by manufacturer and configuration – we factor this into the project schedule from the start.
Almost certainly not – the door itself is usually fine. The rot is typically in the exterior wood frame, particularly the bottom section. We remove the rotted section, replace it with new material, and cap the entire exterior frame with aluminum so it can never rot again. It’s a fraction of the cost of a new door and lasts indefinitely.
Yes – but it requires opening the wall to build the pocket frame. The feasibility depends on what’s in the wall: plumbing, electrical, and structural elements all affect whether a pocket door is practical in a given location. We assess this at the quote stage.
Yes – we do the complete job, including interior casing, sill, any patching required, and painting. When we’re finished, the window or door looks like it was always there.
We serve East York, North York, Leaside, the Beaches, Leslieville, Cabbagetown, Rosedale, Forest Hill, Willowdale, Bayview Village, and the surrounding Toronto neighbourhoods.
