New flooring changes a room more completely than almost any other single upgrade – and unlike paint, it has to be right the first time. At The HandyForce, we install hardwood, engineered hardwood, laminate, luxury vinyl plank, and tile flooring across Toronto homes. We also do the work that most flooring companies won’t take on: squeak repair, gap closing in click flooring, partial plank replacement, and stair tread refurbishment. If it’s on your floor, we can fix it or replace it.
Laminate is the most popular flooring choice in Toronto right now – and for good reason. It’s durable, scratch-resistant, easy to maintain, and comes in a wide range of wood-look finishes that are genuinely difficult to distinguish from real hardwood at a glance. It’s particularly well suited to households with kids, pets, and the kind of real life that leaves marks. We install floating laminate and can advise on underlay choice, which makes a significant difference to both feel and sound. For guidance on formaldehyde emissions and indoor air quality standards for laminate flooring sold in Canada, Health Canada’s flooring guidance is a useful reference.
LVP is the go-to choice for basements and any area where moisture is a factor. It’s fully waterproof, comfortable underfoot, and warmer-feeling than tile. Modern LVP has come a long way – the better products are virtually indistinguishable from hardwood in appearance while being far more forgiving in challenging environments.
Nothing matches the warmth and character of real hardwood. We install both solid and engineered hardwood, including site-finished options where the floor is sanded and finished in place for a truly seamless result. Engineered hardwood offers greater dimensional stability – it handles the humidity swings of a Toronto home across seasons better than solid hardwood and can be installed over radiant heating systems.
For kitchens, bathrooms, mud rooms, and any high-moisture or high-traffic area, porcelain or ceramic tile is the right call. See our tiling page for full detail on what we install and how.
Squeaky floors are one of the most common complaints in Toronto’s older homes, where wood subfloors and joists have had decades to dry out and shift. The squeak is almost always caused by wood movement against a fastener – a floorboard rubbing against a nail or screw with every step. We locate the source and fix it, either from above (through the flooring) or from below (through the ceiling of the space underneath). It’s detail work that takes patience – and that most flooring companies simply don’t offer.
Click-together laminate and engineered flooring can develop gaps between planks over time, particularly with seasonal humidity changes. Boards that have separated don’t just look bad – they allow debris to collect and can indicate a larger movement issue with the subfloor. We close the gaps, re-engage the locking mechanism, and assess whether anything structural underneath needs attention.
A single damaged, stained, or warped plank doesn’t mean a full floor replacement. We replace individual planks – matching existing flooring where possible – and blend the repair so it’s not obvious where the new plank is. This is detail-oriented work, but it saves clients from the cost and disruption of replacing an entire floor for one problem area.
Stair treads that spent years under a carpet runner often come out full of nail holes and staple marks, with worn or unfinished wood that looks nothing like the rest of the home. We repair and refinish the treads – filling holes, sanding smooth, and painting or staining to match the new flooring direction of the house. It’s one of those transformations that people don’t think to ask about until they see the result.
A floor is only as good as what’s underneath it. We assess the subfloor before any installation begins – checking for deflection, soft spots, moisture, and level. Where levelling is needed, we apply self-levelling compound. Where boards are squeaky or soft, we address them before they’re covered. No shortcuts. The prep work is what makes the installation last.

Laminate, by a significant margin. It’s improved dramatically over the last decade – the better products look genuinely like hardwood and hold up extremely well in busy households. LVP is the choice for basements and wet areas. If budget allows and you want the real thing, engineered hardwood is our recommendation for most main-floor applications in Toronto homes.
In many cases, yes. If the squeak is accessible from below – through a basement ceiling or a crawl space – we can often fix it without touching the finished floor at all. Where it has to be addressed from above, we work through the existing flooring using methods that minimise the visual impact. We assess which approach makes sense before any work begins.
Yes. Gap formation in click flooring is common, particularly in homes with seasonal humidity swings. We close the gaps, re-engage the locking mechanism, and advise on humidity management (a good quality humidifier in winter does a lot to prevent recurrence). If the gaps are caused by subfloor movement rather than humidity, we address that too.
We always try. Matching depends on whether the original product is still available – if it is, we source it. If it’s been discontinued, we assess the closest available match and advise honestly on how noticeable the difference will be. Sometimes a clean transition strip between the old and new is a better solution than an imperfect match.
Yes – removal and disposal are included in our quotes unless you specifically ask to handle that yourself. We account for it in the project plan so there are no surprises.
